The ring timeout controls how long your phone rings before your AI Receptionist takes over. This applies to direct calls to your AI number when using "Ring my phone first" routing.
Understanding ring timeout
Measured in seconds
Default is 20 seconds (approximately 4-5 rings)
After timeout expires, the AI answers
The handoff is seamless to the caller
Available timeout options
Seconds | Approximate Rings | Best For |
10 | 2-3 rings | Quick handoff, busy environment |
15 | 3-4 rings | Standard responsiveness |
20 | 4-5 rings | Default, balanced approach |
30 | 6-7 rings | Maximum time to answer |
Choosing your timeout
Shorter timeout (10-15 seconds):
You're often unable to answer quickly
You want minimal caller wait time
AI handling is your preference
Longer timeout (20-30 seconds):
- You want every chance to answer personally
- Phone may not be immediately accessible
- Personal interaction is your priority
