How do I make my phone ring first for calls direct to my AI number?

Set up ring-first routing so your phone rings before the AI takes over if you don't answer in time.

Updated this week

This setting applies to direct calls to your AI number. Configure your phone to ring first, with the AI Receptionist taking over only if you don't answer.

Steps to enable ring-first routing

  1. Go to Call Routing in the menu

  2. Select Ring my phone first

  3. Enter the phone number you want to ring

  4. Set the ring timeout (how long to ring before AI takes over)

  5. Save your settings

How ring-first works

  1. Customer calls your AI number directly

  2. Your phone rings for the timeout period

  3. If you answer β†’ You take the call normally

  4. If you don't answer β†’ AI Receptionist takes over

  5. Caller doesn't know there was a handoff

Ring timeout options

  • 10 seconds - Quick handoff to AI

  • 15 seconds - Standard (3-4 rings)

  • 20 seconds - Gives you more time to answer (default)

  • 30 seconds - Maximum time before AI

Tips for effective use

  • Set timeout based on how quickly you can typically answer

  • Consider where your phone usually is (pocket vs desk)

  • Test to ensure smooth handoff to AI

  • If you're often busy, shorter timeout is better

Note: If you forward calls from your existing number to the AI, your phone already rings first. This setting is only needed if customers call your AI number directly.
